Higgins & Associates Solicitors (“we”, “us”, “the firm”) is the data controller responsible for your personal data. We are a solicitors' practice based at 1 Dublin Road, Leixlip, Co Kildare, W23 D682, and regulated by the Law Society of Ireland.

• Information collected in the course of acting for you — where you become a client, we collect the information necessary to advise on and progress your matter. This may include identity and verification documents, financial information, and information relating to the legal matter itself.

Some of the information we hold when acting for a client may be sensitive or “special category” data. We handle all such information with appropriate care and confidentiality.

We may share it where necessary with: barristers, experts and other third parties instructed in connection with your matter (with your knowledge); courts, public bodies and registries as required; our professional advisers, auditors and the Law Society of Ireland where required; and trusted service providers who support our practice (such as IT and case-management providers) under appropriate confidentiality and data-protection terms. We may also disclose information where required by law.

6. How long we keep your information

We retain personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, including to meet our legal, regulatory and professional-indemnity obligations. Retention periods for client files are determined by our regulatory requirements and best practice; details are available on request.

Subject to certain conditions and exemptions, you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; have inaccurate data corrected; request erasure of your data; restrict or object to processing; and request data portability.
